Your only limit is you

QUOTE OF THE DAY: Your only limit is you.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: You never know what someone is going through so give someone a high five or a hug today.  Or give someone you have been thinking about a call.  It’s the holidays and this can be a hard time for many people.  Let’s celebrate that we get to live life together with our friends and family this season.

Let’s continue our habits.  Let’s do some awesome things.  I am training for a half marathon on January 20th and also training for a mini indoor TRI at the same time on January 27th.  Fun times ahead.  Let’s get some goals together and crush them.

These affirmations are from a meditation I listened to on insight timer,  which I highly recommended you check out.

1) Today is a gift I cherish
2) I accept my flaws as part of my beauty
3) Today I will nourish and love my body by feeding it healthy foods.

Lasting change

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  “The secret of making lasting change is to acknowledge and accept that real change takes time and patience. We didn’t get chronically ill overnight. We didn’t gain weight in one week or even one month. Good chance, it may take us longer than twenty-one days to overcome whatever we’re facing. Whether it’s something physical, emotional, spiritual, or a combination, we may need to be realistic in our goals for meaningful change to happen. The first step is getting started!”
― Dana Arcuri

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Well the holiday season is upon us and for part of me this is my favorite part of the year – the reflection, the joy, the peace.  For the other part of me it’s the craziest busiest part of the year with so many extra things to do.  I enjoy having a little bit more time to do things and clean out my closet and the extra stuff in my bedroom.

There are a lot of ways to restart your diet or your fitness routine etc.  And a lot of people try to make changes during this time.  I have found myself saying this year is going to be different.  Or this year is going to be better and I think in some ways it can be.  But like this quote says real change takes time and patience.

Doing small things every day to make change is the key.  You have to be in it for the long haul and understand that life has ups and downs and everyone experiences set backs and obstacles along the way.

1) I love and accept myself unconditionally in this moment.
2) Life loves me.
3) This moment is perfect and exactly how it’s supposed to be.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “To be precise, there are three gems for healthy life: sufficient workouts, healthy food, and enough sleep.”
– Girdhar Joshi

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Well today we are going back to the basics folks.  Every time something is off with me I can link it back to one of these gems.  If I am eating junk foods a lot, I can tell that makes me more moody.   If I am not getting my workouts, in well then I feel off too. And oh boy if I don’t have enough sleep, you can expect a little bit more grouchy and emotional Matt right there.

So as we go into this holiday season, don’t let those good habits that you have built up all year go to waste.  Yes take time for family and friends and eat some good tasty and delicious food.  But after Thanksgiving is over get back in the game.

You are worth it.
Your body and health are worth it.
You can do this.

Happy Thanksgiving!

1. I release today.

I let go of fear, worry, anger, and blame. I release anxieties and stress. I release the heaviness of today and the weight on my shoulders. I let go of negative thoughts, and keep the happy ones. In my sleep will I find the freedom to know joy and peace again.

2. I now enter a place of deep and restful sleep.

My bedroom is a place of peace and relaxation. When I enter this room, and crawl into bed at night, today’s thoughts naturally begin to soften. My burden lightens and sleep is coming.

3. I am grateful.

I am grateful for this life. I am grateful for the people who have been my teachers. I am grateful for the lessons life has brought. I am grateful for love that I receive, give, and share. I am grateful for the light of day. I am grateful for the darkness of night, in which I will sleep peacefully tonight.
I thought a lot of these affirmations were helpful.  See this link to check it out:

A birthday reflection

Today’s quote of the day is from Jamie Varon.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It’s a long quote but it says a lot.  I turned 40 this weekend.  Birthdays make me feel special.  I enjoyed celebrating with my friends and family.  I received love and attention as people shared gifts with me, and gave me hugs, and high fives.  I enjoyed all of that.  I hope you can find ways to get that in your life as well this week.

1) I matter and what I have to offer this world also matters.

Birthday Day Quotes:

“Life isn’t about your age. Life is about living. So when your birthday comes be thankful for the year that has just past and anticipate with a happy heart what the coming year will bring.” Catherine Pulsifer

“There are two great days in a person’s life – the day we are born and the day we discover why.” William Barclay

“The way I see it, you should live every day like it’s your birthday.” Paris Hilton

It’s Your Park Day Recap

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  “You can’t tell a kid that it’s time to exercise; that’s a turn-off…you have to say, “Let’s go to the park and have some fun! Then you get them to do some running, play on the swings, practice on the balance beam, and basically get a full workout disguised as play.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  My family and I participated in “It’s Your Park Day” this past week and it was a good experience.  We picked up trash at our local Balcones Park. We basically just hiked around the park area and picked up trash as we went.  It was a fun adventure for all of us.  We got outside in the beautiful weather.  We got a hike in.  And we cleaned up the area and left it cleaner and more beautiful than we started with.

So I hope you get to spend some time outdoors this week and reap the wonderful rewards of time in nature.

1) I am renewed by time spent outside.
2) I am filled with wonder by nature’s designs.
3) Outdoors, I feel renewed vitality—I am truly alive.

~Obstacles don’t have to stop you…

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” – Michael Jordan

The above quote is inspired from by this song that I heard while I was in a spin class on Friday.

Sia- The Greatest

Some of the song lyrics are below:
Uh-oh, running out of breath, but I
Oh, I, I got stamina
Uh-oh, running now, I close my eyes
Well, oh, I got stamina
And uh-oh, I see another mountain to climb
But I, I, I got stamina
Uh-oh, I need another lover, be mine
Cause I, I, I got stamina

Don’t give up, I won’t give up
Don’t give up, no no no
Don’t give up, I won’t give up
Don’t give up, no no no

I’m free to be the greatest, I’m alive
I’m free to be the greatest here tonight, the greatest
The greatest, the greatest alive
The greatest, the greatest alive

So stop today for a brief moment or minute or two and reflect on some ways you are not going to give up on your dreams and your desires for this life.  Maybe let the song play and listen to the lyrics.  Maybe journal about something and let your thoughts go on the paper.  Maybe meditate on the meaning of your brief life.

May you find peace.
May you find laughter.
May you find strength for your journey.

1) I am being sculpted into the best version of myself.
2) I don’t give up on my happiness or my growth.

~Maya Angelou Quote~

QUOTE OF THE DAY: If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.  ~ Maya Angelou

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: This quote simply reminds me to be myself.  I am unique and so are you.  Everyone else is already taken so you might as well be you, because you are amazing.  If you tell yourself you are amazing you will be amazing.  God does not create junk.  He created you with special talents and abilities that no one else has.  Go celebrate the gift of today and go out into the world and be your amazing self.

Does anyone have any more thoughts on this quote?

1) My life is a gift. I will use this gift with confidence, joy and exuberance.

2) I approve of myself. I love myself deeply and fully.

Vincent Van Gogh Quote

QUOTE OF THE DAY: Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.  ~ Vincent Van Gogh

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: If you remember last week I was looking for this quote and I could not find it because I was looking for a quote from Picasso.  This week I found this quote on my wall at work and said oh that’s why I could not find it – it’s from Vincent Van Gogh.

Typically when I am training for say a half marathon race, I never run the full 13.1 miles in my training.  I save that for race day.  But the specific miles and runs I do in the 12 weeks leading up the race are strategic and purposeful both in their mile lengths and in their efforts.  Therefore, great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together. This is not to say that someone could on a whim run a 13.1 mile race, but is more to say things that are worth doing are worth doing right.  And they come together slowly.

Great things take practice.  It has been said that to master a craft it takes 10,000 hours of practice.

So in other words, don’t give up.  Keep planning.  Keep running.  Keep doing that thing and one day things will come together and your life can become a masterpiece.

1)  I find and enjoy the simple pleasures life is offering right now.
2) I am STRONG!
3) I love myself and who I am.

Give it away….

QUOTE OF THE DAY: The meaning of life is to find your gift.  The purpose of life is to give it away.  ~Pablo Picasso

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: I was searching for a quote that I have in my office from Picasso but I could not find it.  Instead, I stumbled upon this one which might or might not be attributed to Picasso, but none the less will work for today’s TGIM email.  When I find the quote I was looking for back at the office, I will use it for next week’s TGIM.

One of my gifts is the gift of encouragement.  I can generally encourage people pretty easily and in a way that they specifically need it.  I try to generally do this every time I send out an e-mail.  And it is my hope that you are encouraged when you read this every Monday.  If you need some additional encouragement send me an email.

Do you know what your gifting is?  Do you try and give it away?  Let me know your thoughts on this quote or any of the others I send out.

1) Every day I expand and share my special talents with others.
2) I acknowledge my strengths and use these daily to my best ability.
3) I am incredibly grateful for all my talents and abilities.

TGIM 09-17-2018

QUOTE OF THE DAY: How you do anything is how you do everything

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  I could not find a specific author for the above quote but I just started reading a book called Declutter Your Way to Success by Terri Savelle Foy.  In it, she uses that phrase and relates it with a story from the military.

Admiral Bill McRaven who oversaw the plan and execution of the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden said that if you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.  If you make your bed in the morning you have accomplished the first task of the day.  It will give you a sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.  It’s about your personal standard.  Your level of respect for yourself and your family shows up in your surroundings.

Excellence is simply doing ordinary, everyday mundane tasks in an extraordinary way.

I am orderly, organized and effective. I operate precisely and smoothly, resulting in excellent performance and specific, measurable results.
