GO FOR IT!

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: GO FOR IT!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  Happy Monday!  TGIM!

Embrace this today. Be thankful you are alive today. Cherish the precious gift of today.

This day and this week is an amazing time to be alive in human history.

This week you will face challenges.  Step up to those challenges because you already have everything you need inside of you to conquer them!

This week there will be joyful moments of celebration.  Times of victories and of things going right in your life!  Celebrate those times with joyful steps!

This week things may not go the way you thought or planned and you might get angry, mad, or sad.  In those times take a deep breathe.  Ask for help.  Let it go and go with the flow.  Go for a walk and step it up outside.  Those sad and unplanned moments of your day will pass just like the amazing and joyful ones will.

This week is going to be a great week.  I can not wait to see what happens.

So put your best steps forward and go for it.  Go for the gold!

Summer Vacation

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: ““A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you’ve been taking.” – Earl Wilson

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: About a week or so ago I went on a family vacation.  We went on a summer vacation to visit Aunt Sue in Cleveland, Ohio.

Sue Ryan is married to Adam Ryan and has three kids.  Hanna is a senior in college, Molly is 16 and Jared is 13.  They have a two story house with a basement.  Their house has basically 3 floors which is huge!

We always have a good time in the basement.  That’s where we played many games of freeze tag, regular tag, and another fun card game.

We went on a creek walk, we went paddle boarding, and visited a small beach.  We threw the Frisbee around and played SPUD.  My wife and I went out to celebrate our 15th year wedding anniversary.

It was all a good time.  I slept in.  I slept in the basement on a cot.  I slept in Jared’s bedroom as well.  We ate a lot of desserts because calories consumed on vacations don’t count right?

It’s always a fun time visiting Aunt Sue’s house.

Do you have any summer plans?  Any summer vacations that you plan to take or have already taken?

Respond to this post and let me know!

From Coach Matt

AFFIRMATIONS OF THE DAY:
1) I envision a wonderful future for myself and the world.
2) I love and support myself and others just the way we are.

Triathlon Race Recap…

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: You don’t have to go fast.  You just have to go.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: On Sunday I completed the Lake Pfluggerville Triathlon.  It was my third or fourth time completing this event.

In the past, the open water swimming was a little intimidating.  You can practice in a pool all you want.  Just trust me, swimming in open water is a lot different.

I entered the water more confidently this year due to my long swimming training sessions that I mostly logged in the pool at the YMCA.  I did do a couple of swims at the Barton Springs pool which is roughly 200 meters from end to end.  That’s a good way to practice for open water swims in my opinion.

I swam the 1000 meters and got out of the water.  I took a quick bathroom stop and got on my bike.  My wife was eagerly and enthusiastically waiting for me at mile 2 of the bike portion of the event.  This year we did the bike course in reverse of previous years.  I think I liked that better.

When I got to mile 2 my wife and two kids were cheering me on and cheering on all the other bikers that went by.  The race does not have that many chances to see the athletes in the swim, bike or run so it was great to have this brief time with my family.  My wife may moan and complain about how much I train and exercise, but when it comes to race day she usually is very supportive.

The rest of the bike was fun.  The course had mostly small rolling hills for the majority of the course.  My average speed was 16 miles per hour.

Once I got to the run, I was tired and it was hot.  Fortunately, I know this feeling well.  I went ahead and just took it easy.  I ran/walked the run course around the lake.

Thinking back to the quote of the day.  I am not the fastest swimmer.  I am not the fastest on the bike.  And I am definitely not the fastest runner.  But I set a goal.  I trained for this race and I went out there and executed the plan.

That’s what is so great about a race.

I hope you can set a goal and reach it.

From Coach Matt

AFFIRMATIONS OF THE DAY:

1) I am in the process of becoming the best version of myself.
2) I can do anything I put my mind to.
3) I have what it takes to reach my goals.

This is the day…

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Do you ever just listen to the silence?

As I was listening to the silence this morning, I heard this verse from the Bible and knew it was going to be the quote of the day.

This is the day that the Lord has made.

Sometimes I feel every new day just holds so much promise.  It’s 24 hours that is unscripted and just waiting for us to go live it.  It’s an adventure waiting to be explored.  It’s so new. It’s just so full of promise and full of things that have never happened before.  Sometimes it gets me excited and motivated.  Maybe today you could be excited about what this has in store specifically for you?  Do you feel that?

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

I celebrated some fun things this past week.  On Friday my friend and I completed our own self-led self-paced triathlon.  We do this traditionally on the Friday before Father’s Day.  This year we started at the YMCA pool and swam 500 yards.  We next hopped on our bikes and rode 18 miles with a quick stop at Juiceland.  We finished with a 3 mile run through the upper end of Brushy Creek Park.  After this, we went to Rudy’s BBQ for lunch.

It was another great triathlon effort.  Next Sunday, June 27th, I will be doing the Olympic distance Pfluggerville triathlon.  That’s a 1000- meter swim, a 26-mile bike and a 6-mile run.

I also went to my mom’s house for lunch on Father’s Day and we celebrated again with Rudy’s BBQ and brownies! So we had some fun times for sure.

Thank you so much for reading my blog post today.  I really appreciate it.  And I really appreciate you.  This is my writing outlet and I hope it encourages you in some way.  I always appreciate your financial support as well.

Always grateful,
From Coach Matt

What story are you telling yourself?

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: The only story that matters is the one you tell yourself.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  I was listening to some motivational material and this one idea stuck out at me.  The story that you tell yourself matters.

At the beginning of every Fitbit class I coach, I tell them a story.  I tell them that when they sign up for my Fitbit class they automatically become a Fitbit Champion.  I repeat this story over and over again every 12 weeks because I think it matters.  I think if you tell yourself you are a Fitbit Champion then you will do certain things differently.  You might get more steps in that day or that week.  You might eat healthier.  You might eat like a champion.  You might even believe in yourself in a new and different way.  You might make up a whole new different story about yourself.  How cool is that?

What story are you telling yourself?  Is it a positive one?  Or is it negative and needs some work?

This week I challenge you to work on the story you tell yourself.  Work on feeding your mind positive and inspirational and motivational material.

I have been using an app called Motiversity.  So check that out if you don’t know where to start.

Let’s have a great week!

AFFIRMATIONS OF THE DAY:

Discipline, courage, and heart.

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

The real value of setting goals is not the recognition or reward, its the person we become by finding the discipline, courage and commitment to achieve them.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

I rode my bike 30 miles this morning.  Why did I do that you ask?  It was on my triathlon training plan for this morning.  And I had the discipline, commitment, courage, and drive to complete that training session.

Was it easy?  No.  It started off with some light rain on and off.  And I mean really light rain.  That stopped and started for the first 15 miles.  After about an hour it stopped.  It went well after that, but miles 25 through 30 were the hardest.  I was not used to riding that much at one time.

I did the 30 miles.  I biked it.  It took about 2 hours.  And no one can take that hard work away from me.

A lot of my training is not super fun.  I try to make it fun though.  I got to choose a longer route today than I normally would which was kind of fun.

Sometimes the only person getting in the way of your success is you.

I put in the hard work and trust that the training plan will lead me successfully to my goal triathlon race on June 27th.

I got up out of bed in the morning.  I got on my bike.  And I rode those miles.  No one else can take that success away from me.  No one else can take that hard work away from me.  I completed it right?

Put in the work.
Celebrate your small victories.
And keep winning at the game of life.

Let’s do this Monday with a little pep in your step.
A little drive.  A little extra.

Because the only difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.

Happy Monday!

Fill your cup…

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
You can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking care of myself is important, not selfish and is actually a gift to my loved ones. Taking care of myself means I’ll have the energy and ability to love others better.  ~Shannon Long

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  I get up in the morning extra early before the family does and have some time for myself.

I exercise to help me feel better and as an act of self-love.

I used to kind of think this idea was selfish.  Take care of yourself first?  Why would I do that when I have so many other demands and other people who need my attention and love?  I have work to do and I have a family to care for and give attention to.  How could I possibly justify more time to myself?

Well, think about it.  You can’t pour from an empty cup.  If you don’t have anything left to give you, you really don’t have anything left to give.  I think especially as an introvert I need extra down time.  Extra time to myself to recharge.  I find that doing that daily fills my cup daily and hopefully I can find some extra time on the weekends to unwind a bit.

I want to show up at work and with my family with love.  I want to show up with energy.  I want to show up with my best self.  Now some days of the week that is not easy because you are tired or something causes your day to be off.  But for the most part, I try to do this.

What are some of your self-love practices?  Do you believe self-care is important?

On this Monday be thankful for blessings and take time for yourself.  It doesn’t have to be a lot of time.  Just enough to fill your cup.  Happy Monday!

With thanksgiving and gratitude,

Coach Matt

Being yourself is essential…

Happy MONDAY! TGIM!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Being yourself is essential because we put off our dreams by thinking we’re not enough, that we don’t have what it takes, that what we’re interested in isn’t right and we ought to chase after something else. My friend, you have everything you need to fulfill your dreams. They’re your dreams, and no one else’s. Never give up on them.”

~ Art Rios
