It is not because things are difficult….

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
I started a program called Optimize Coach this year.  In it, the creator Brian Johnson takes you through a wealth of wisdom and philosophy from many different books and sources.  I listened to a high-level overview from a book called, “Letters from a Stoic.”  And that’s where I got today’s quote of the day! 

Almost every day I try to get in a workout and move my body.  And at some point during the workout normally it becomes hard.  I train my body for every day health.  I also train my body for a couple of big races every year.

I have one coming up on January 23rd.  It’s the 3M Half Marathon.  This year I decided to do something different that I have never done before. 

If you know you me at all and have been reading this blog or e-mail for any length of time you know I am an early riser.  I typically get up on weekdays at about 4:00 a.m. and then go workout at 5:00 a.m. or 5:15 a.m. and I log into work at 6:30 a.m.  I start my day early.  And I end it early. 

On days where I do a long run, I start around 5:00 or 5:30 a.m. and run for an hour or two to do a run. 

Now on race day, things seem backward because I would wake up at the same time at 4:00 a.m and wait until 7:30 a.m. to start to run. 

NOT THIS YEAR!

This year I will wake up at 4:00 a.m. and start running around 4:30 to 6:30 a.m. to get in about 10 miles.  I will return home and eat breakfast and then run 3 miles to the race start by 7:30 a.m. and then run the 13.1 miles of the 3M Half!

13.1 + 13.1 = 26.2 

WOW!

Does that sound difficult? YES!
Did I train enough and run as many miles I should have? MAYBE!
Do I dare to run the race? YES!

What dream of yours have you created a big old story around?  You know the one that says your dream is too hard to bring to life.  That it’s impossible.  Yeah right?!?!?

Habit Change Advice

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

We are 10 days into the new year!  

How are you doing with everything? 

You might have tried to change some things about yourself.  You might not. 
I have been listening to a couple of gurus on habit change and they kind of said the same thing.

If you want to start a new habit do the following:

1) Make it a really small and really easy thing. 
2) After you do it, celebrate that you did do it.  
3) Tell yourself you are the type of person that does this new habit.  

For instance, say you wanted to start flossing your teeth.  Make the goal really easy.  Say, I am just going to start by flossing one tooth on the first day.  Then when you floss the one tooth, celebrate that!  You did it! You flossed one tooth.  Then say I am the type of person that flosses my teeth.   
Don’t say I am going to meditate for 60 minutes a day in 2022. 
Make the goal to meditate one minute a day. 
And then celebrate that. 

If you make the goal really easy, you are more likely to do it. 
And once you do it, you can create some momentum around these small wins. 
And once you get the momentum, you can think of maybe adding other things or making the goal bigger. 

Does that make sense?

I have some cool ideas for my Fitbit Champion class that I was able to develop over the New Year’s break while I was in Cleveland OHIO.  I get the best ideas while I am running and so I was able to run on my in-law’s treadmill and think and dream. 

Now, I will be the first to tell you I don’t really like the treadmill.  But, there was something about it this year, where I was able to do it for about an hour or so twice!! And I didn’t mind it.  I think that is growth right there.  It was different than running outside.  But I embraced it.  I did it.  And I celebrate that small win!

I am the type of person who can now enjoy treadmill running if I ever choose to do it again.

Do you want to change your life?

It all starts with your mindset.

As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.

If you change the way you think, you can change your life. 

You become what you think about most.

So be careful and choose wisely the thoughts you have.

Watch your thoughts, for they become your words.

Plan to get your daily movement in. 
Fuel your body with healthy foods.
