When you feel like quitting, remember why you started.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: When you feel like quitting, remember why you started.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: As I was thinking about what to write today, I thought I would start by going back to the basics.  Why did I start this blog or this email list called Matt’s Motivational Monday?  It was to bring motivational, inspirational content to your inbox every Monday.  But I will be honest, sometimes I don’t feel that inspired or that motivated to get things done.

So then I go back to the basics.

Matt’s basics involve:

1) Wake up early and do a guided meditation using the meditation app called Insight Timer.  This helps me to be centered.
2) Drinking Matt’s morning smoothie.
3) Doing some exercise sometime that day.  I usually find time at lunch to do exercise but it varies.  Sometimes I do a morning workout.  Sometimes I do a lunchtime workout.  Or once a week I do a workout after work.
4) Be thankful.  Find time to be thankful for things in your life.  Write in a gratitude journal.
5) Read inspirational articles or information and emails.

Some interesting articles and websites I go to are:

This was helpful this week:

Also, a good website that I visit once a week is called https://www.fearlessmotivation.com/

This article was posted this week:

And this site is also my go-to site for motivational videos:

Here is my favorite one from www.mateuszm.com

So there you go.  Three websites that can inspire me or motivated me when I am not motivated.

1) When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive―to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love” ―Marcus Aurelius

2) “This is a wonderful day, I have never seen this one before.” ―Maya Angelou

3) Every day you have the unique opportunity to influence someone else’s life.

Share the Matt’s Motivational Monday love:

1) Matt’s Motivational Monday will always be free, but if you feel inclined to support me you can do so here
2) Or share this e-mail or post with a friend who might need some motivation or encouragement this day!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” ~ AFRICAN PROVERB

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: My two good friends and I just completed our own self- organized, self-paced and self-run triathlon.  It was the second year we all did this together and it was so much fun.  But I also felt a deep satisfaction in my soul after we all completed.  This was not an organized race where we paid people money and all that.  It was free.  We just did it for fun.

We all took off Friday, June 15th from work and tackled this event together.  We swam 800 meters in a City pool, biked 14 miles and then ran 3 miles.

It was glorious!  It was so rich and satisfying. I value this experience highly because it is rare to find friends who want to do this together.  After the event, we went to Rudy’s BBQ to celebrate and eat and talk about this and other things in life. Times like that make me thankful for my friends.

If you want to join us next year, please let me know.

If you have friends that you are thankful to have in your life, definitely tell them this week that you appreciate them.

1) A good friend is someone who joins in on your weirdness.
2) Life is better with friends.
3) A good friend is someone who loves you when you forget to love yourself.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  This quote came to me this week when I was thinking about my friend Paul who completed 50 hours of Camp Gladiator.  He went 50 times just like I did a couple of months ago.

The interesting thing about this idea and this quote is that you never know where a simple conversation will lead you.  In this case, about 6 months ago I asked Paul if he wanted to try out Camp Gladiator because it was helping me get fit.  In January he tried it, then joined, then now 6 months later is still doing it and has done it 50 times.

Personal trainers at Camp Gladiator have a natural way of encouraging you while at camp.  Every camp I go to, a trainer will tell me I am doing a good job.  Thus every time I go to camp, I feel encouraged and I feel good because I got in a good workout.  And then at 50 workouts, you get a little celebration pat on the back!

So I say celebrate you and your accomplishments.  Can you believe it is already about half way through the year?  We are in June and that’s the 6 month of the year.

I joined Toastmasters this year and every week I get to step out of my comfort zone and speak.  I also joined a committee at work that helps plan 2 department wide parties a year.

I am feeling accomplished.  Are you?  If not, what is holding you back?

1) I celebrate each goal I accomplish with joy and gratitude.
2) I believe in my abilities.
3) I approve of who I am and that is enough

QUOTE OF THE DAY: The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered “Man…. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.” ~Dalai Lama

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: I saw this quote the other day and have seen it before.  And I guess it just makes me think of what might be important in my life.  Am I anxious about the future?  Do I sacrifice my health in order to make money?

I have an office job, so yes in one sense I might be sacrificing part of my health in order to make money.  But I have the freedom to get up once an hour and move around.  I have the amazing chance to workout during my lunch hour by going running or going swimming or perhaps riding my bike as well.  My office has showers and that is an amazing thing.  I try to only work 40 hours a week.  I could be doing things differently in order to live longer and better and I am trying to really live and be present with my family and friends.

So I just invite you to reflect on this quote.  Can you work on yourself?  Can you be less anxious?  Can you work less?  And appreciate your life more?

I appreciate my life just the way it is.
I will count my blessings today.
I will stop comparing myself to others.
I am a wonderful and unique person.
